As the name implies, the Polytechnic is in Delta State, a state in the south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

Interestingly, there are three polytechnics owned by the Delta state government, and they were all established on the same day and month.

The three Delta State Polytechnics were established on 12 November 2002; however, Delta State University Ozoro is said to be the most developed of all the three polytechnics in the state.

The Delta State Polytechnic (DSP), Ozoro was established by Law enacted on January 1, 2002, during the administration of James, Ibori.

When the polytechnic started, it was managed as the Delta State Higher Education Project (DSHEP), together with the other two polytechnics and a College of Physical Education.

They were managed in partnership with the University of Westminster, London – an arrangement designed to fast track the institutions’ development. 

Before the polytechnic’s establishment, there was a College of Agriculture on ground which was later absorbed into Ozoro Poly.
